So, it’s been a month since I last posted to this site, so I’ll just give a quick rundown of the events that have happened the past few weeks since this past April/May have been quite busy for me:
- I got 3rd prize from the Academy of American Poets for my poem “Saturnism”! However, what I sent in for the contest is completely different from its final form, but oh well.
- My poetry project (the big Senior Paper that took me 3+ months) was nominated for Best Senior Paper! It didn’t win, but the recognition alone is pretty amazing.
- I graduated! Yay! And my grades were much, much better than last semester’s.
Sadly, I will not be walking at my undergraduate graduation but to be honest, I’m not terribly disappointed about that. I came to Randolph to get a degree (which will be mailed to me at a later date this May) and now I’m off to another school, which is rewarding enough. Granted, I didn’t have much downtime between the two, but oh well.
I drove down to Charlotte, NC today, which was kinda cool but also terrifying. I have never driven more than 2 hours by myself so the fact that I drove nearly 3 1/2 hours in my tiny Beetle and didn’t freak out is impressive (for me, anyway). North Carolina’s roads are not that great but at least I survived.
So, Queens University of Charlotte. I’m here. I’m currently typing this post in my chilly dorm room in Hayes Residence Hall. It’s a nice size room, so I can’t complain. I don’t know if I was the first person to check in, but I’m definitely one of the first few. I didn’t want to drive up the day of orientation, so it’s been nice moving in and getting time to unwind. And re-read the materials for classes this week.
I guess that’s about it, really. I haven’t heard back from any magazines or contests, so that’ll come in due time I suppose.
Anyway, ’til next time.
